Instant Messaging / Telephony
Gaim Universal Messenger

Gaim is a so-called Universal Messenger. It supports multiple instant messaging protocols including Jabber and ICQ. If Gaim was compiled with Zeroconf support, it does announce your currently available buddies to the network.
Note: The tricky part is to setup the plugin. Because it is a protocol plugin, it won't be listed in the plugin-list. Instead you have to create a new account and use Bonjour as account type. After that your presence should be announced to the network using Zeroconf.

If you finally managed to setup Gaim to announce its/your presence to the network, other users on that perticular network may be able to initiate a Zeroconf based chat using applications like Miranda.

At the time Gizmo, a so-called Skype killer, is using Apples Zeroconf implementation to announce its SIP (VoIP telephony) capability. Tho - it is also possible to run Gizmo against the Avahi compatibility layer.
