services remain listed after disconnecting

Reported by: Stanislav Brabec <sbrabec@…> Owned by: lennart
Milestone: Component: avahi-core
Keywords: Cc:

Description

After disconnecting computer providing DNS-SD service, it remains listed by "avahi-browse -a" for at least 15 minutes or up to restart of daemon.

With Nautilus from SuSE Linux 10.1 (it has mDNSResponder patch) using avahi-compat-mDNSResponder, services remain listed to the daemon restart. With native mDNSResponder Nautilus undisplays them in a few seconds after disconnecting of the DNS-SD providing service.

Reproduced with: avahi-0.6.5

Could you supply us with mDNS traffic dump of the time when you shut down the service?

Does the machine run more than one mDNS responder at the same time?

Apparantly a goodbye packet from the machine that owned the service didn't reach Avahi. The reasons might be a firewall?

mDNS traffic dump is udp on port 5353. Make it with ethereal.

I have retested this bug. If service is correctly terminated on the Mac, icon disappears immediately. The dumb icon appears only after incorrect termination (unplugging Mac network cable).

Note that mDNSResponder implementation has the same problem, but the dumb icon never appeears in Nautilus (it either displays correct icon {even if disconnected} or nothing).

I still need some ethereal traffic dumps for this one. And somehow this appears to be a Gnome-VFS issue in my eyes.

Closing this bug since the reporter didn't respond in nearly two month's time. In addition I think that this is a GnomeVFS bug.

Feel free to reopen this bug if you can supply me with some more useful information and can prove me wrong that this is actually an Avahi bug.
