Why does Ubuntu 7.10 CUPS Printer Discovery Not Find suffix of Windows domain

Description

We have a Windows domain name with .local as part of the name (the suffix). Why does CUPS printer discovery balk when the full domain name is used instead of the domain name to the left of the suffix? That is why does Arlington1 work, when Arlington1.local is the domain's real name?
